We drove to Breckenridge late in the morning, a short drive from Frisco. Taking the south road around Lake Dillon we came upon an overlook, we stopped and walked the trail to the lake overlook. A bit of snow was still clinging to the tree branches and on the ground, we are higher here than at the timeshare. We met the same couple on the trail that we had chatted with last night in the hot tub. They pointed out the trail went further along the lake and wound up in the parking lot, so John and I decided to take the walk. Lovely views of the lake and mountains from the trail, we took several pictures of both. It was a nice walk, although cold when the wind blew.
We then continued our drive to Breckenridge and when we arrived there we found the highway construction crews were working on the main streets of the downtown area! We did come to an underground parking garage and walked up to street level, walking around town for awhile. We were trying to find a restaurant for lunch, a lot of them were closed, the season hasn't begun here, it starts around the middle of November when they have snow for the skiers. We finally saw the sign for an Irish Pub upstairs from where we were, it was difficult finding the right staircase! Finally we were able to get there and had a very good lunch. Afterwards, we walked around Breckenridge again, taking the short river walk and talking pictures. This being a popular ski area there are hundreds of condos, I was surprised at the number of shops that were closed, either for lease or sale. The season is short here, and there are only so many tourist shops one can absorb!
We walked by a large barge that dredged the area during the gold rush, the sign told us they used these huge dredges to get down to the gold, there are tons of rocks in and around the town. John took a picture, but his camera was not set right, so we don't have it. The dredge is now a restaurant.
We went into several shops, I toured the largest art gallery I've seen, it was an old building with many rooms, all local artists were showing there, 32 of them! It was terribly expensive, though, small (6"x12" or so) works were selling for $1200. on up, the larger paintings, (4'x4' and larger), were selling for 18 to 29 thousand dollars.
We finished our tour and drove back to Frisco, stopping at Walmart for John to buy a mouse pad for the laptop, since his optical mouse would not work on the glass-topped table in the clubhouse; the only place where their WiFi could be picked up. Then on to the timeshare for a relaxing dinner. We both tire easily in this high altitude of 9300'.
