Walley's Hot Springs - tour of Carson City NV 2 June 05

We had breakfast and lazed around the TS until 9 AM, thinking the Railroad Museum wasn't open this early, then found out it opened at 0830. So off we went off to tour Carson City.
The RR Museum was most interesting, it touts itself as one of the finest regional RR Museums in the country. I would agree. Most of the engines and cars are from the Virginia and Truckee RR, the richest and most famous short line, it served Virginia City and the Comstock from 1869 - 1938. The RR made it's last run between Reno and Minden May 31, 1950. They are still restoring several locomotives and coach cars in the huge barn behind the museum. They allow tourists to go into the barn where the restoration work is being done. John and I both took a lot of pictures.
After the RR Museum we drove downtown and stopped first at the Nevada State Museum located in the old U. S. Mint building. We were inside for over 2 hours and didn't see it all in depth; we were famished from hunger and had to eat lunch. This is one of the finest museums I've seen, displays on Nevada from its beginnings to present; a large display on natural history, a huge room filled with most every gun and rifle ever made; a ghost town so realistic and they keep it dark in that display. Also there is a long walk through what looks like an actual mine, very realistic. We both enjoyed the museum tremendously.
We ate lunch at a nice, very old restaurant across the street from the NV Legislature building. The food was excellent, the best salad I've ever had in a restaurant. We ate outdoors since it was sunny, although a bit cool when the wind blew.
We walked across the street from the restaurant to an antique store, I bought a cake platter that matches the design of my punch bowl set, it was only 18.00 dollars.
After lunch we drove through a few of the side streets of Carson City to look at some of the historical houses listed on a map. We found a few, then drove back toward the timeshare, stopping at a Borders bookstore where we bought some books. We also made a stop in Genoa for ice cream and bought sweet rolls for tomorrow's breakfast.
At the timeshare we read and then had pie and more ice cream before bed.

Our last day at the Hot Springs, we lounged around, got things ready to leave in the morning. We plan on camping one night on the way home
