We left Baker Creek after breakfast, heading for Reno. As usual, the drive through and beyond Bishop was beautiful, the Sierra's being snow covered makes for fabulous scenery. We stopped at KMart in BIshop for a bathroom break and bought apple juice, then on to Lee Vining where we stopped at the Mono Lake Visitor Center. It was very interesting, a good museum with a tremendous view of Mono Lake. It would have been nice to take one of the long walks from the VC to the lake, but time didn't permit us that luxury. We did watch a 20 minute movie describing the lake and surrounding area, including the briny shrimp and the thousands of flies.
Continuing on 395 North, we drove to Bridgeport and ate lunch at the Bridgeport Inn. I have always like this little town, it's setting in the valley with the Sierra's surrounding it is lovely. We drove on, through Walker and TOpaz Lake, which is quite full of water due again to the snow and rains, and from there dropped into the Carson Valley. It's beautiful there also, but windy with the down slope winds from the Sierra mountains. The towns of Gardnerville and Minden seemed to go on forever, then Carson City and it was all traffic from there through Reno. Highway 395 skirts the town of Reno, we didn't find either a gas station or motel and there was highway construction for miles, so we continued on and found an exit with a gas station at the last town before we were into the CA part of 395.
The clouds were ominous and we thought we would find a motel at Border town, we were wrong, it is still just a couple of buildings and a casino/restaurant. We did find a very nice, new campground behind the casino so we got a space there, close to the office and bathrooms. It was a really nice camp! Shortly after setting up the van it began to rain! It proceeded to rain off and on for a couple of hours, but we did dodge the raindrops and walk to the Casino, didn't care for the place, so we went back to the van and had a bite to eat. It was late enough to take our showers and go to bed. It didn't rain again during the night.
